The first time I visited Shogran Valley, it felt like stepping into a picture-perfect postcard. Perched high above the Kaghan Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this charming hill station is a place where lush green meadows stretch endlessly, pine forests scent the air, and snow-covered peaks form the perfect backdrop.
The moment I reached there, I knew this was something no lens could fully portray. The blend of fresh mountain air, endless greenery, and snow-draped mountains created an atmosphere you can only truly feel when you’re there. In this blog, I’ll take you through my Shogran journey, from the winding roads to the cozy stays, and the unforgettable ride to Siri Paye.

Shogran’s magic lies in its combination of natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. Sitting at around 2,362 meters (7,749 feet) above sea level, it offers panoramic views of snow-dusted peaks, fresh mountain air, and a sense of stillness you can rarely find elsewhere.
The valley is surrounded by thick alpine forests, making it cooler in summer and coated in snow during winter. Whether you’re here for adventure or just to unwind, Shogran Valley welcomes you with open arms.

My Journey to Shogran
Our adventure to Shogran Valley began at midnight from Lahore. With just three days in hand, we planned a packed itinerary: explore Siri Paye in Shogran, visit the hidden waterfall of Sharan Forest, and trek to Mushk Puri in Nathia Gali. The overnight drive was long but exciting, and by early morning we reached Kiwai — the gateway to Shogran.
From Kiwai, the real adventure started. At that time, the road leading up to Shogran was rough and steep, so we had no choice but to switch from our Honda Civic to a rugged jeep. The 7-kilometer uphill track took around 30 minutes, but it felt like a thrilling ride through dense pine trees and winding curves. (Good news for future travelers — a newly carpeted road has now been constructed, making it much easier for cars of all types to reach Shogran directly.)

Siri Paye Track
After settling down briefly at our hotel, we wasted no time and set out for Siri Paye. There are two ways to get there: either hike the trail or hire a jeep. Since we had already spent the whole night on the road, hiking was out of the question, so we opted for the jeep ride.
Our first stop was Siri, a small meadow with a quaint little lake surrounded by trees. While it makes for a peaceful stop and a few good pictures, my friends didn’t find it particularly exciting, so we moved on quickly towards Paye.
Reaching Paye Meadows was like stepping into another world. Vast stretches of lush green fields rolled endlessly under a dramatic sky. The weather changed every few minutes — sometimes sunshine, sometimes clouds, and soon a drizzle of refreshing rain. From here, the view of Makra Peak was simply breathtaking, rising high above the valley like a majestic guardian.
A small lake sparkled in the middle of the meadow, while horses grazed nearby — and of course, horse rides were available for those wanting to explore the meadows in a more traditional way. Paye was one of those rare places where you could spend the entire day and still feel like you hadn’t seen it all.
Paye To Makra Top Track
For adventure lovers, the trail from Paye Meadows to Makra Peak is a must-do. The trek usually takes about 8–10 hours for a round trip. Many trekkers prefer camping overnight at Paye and starting early in the morning to reach the summit and return by evening.
The trail is both challenging and rewarding, offering panoramic views, alpine flowers, and the sense of walking above the clouds. It’s a journey filled with raw beauty and adventure — one that makes you appreciate the wild charm of northern Pakistan even more.
